I suspect that many of us feel a bit overwhelmed by the seemingly never-ending stream of bad news. The world feels awfully dark right now.
Good news-I’ve found a bit of musical sunshine!
I’ve long been a fan of Jeremy Messersmith. He has a magical talent for weaving some rather offbeat lyrics together with delightfully upbeat melodies. (Check out Organ Door on the Reluctant Graveyard album.) His songs get stuck in your head in a very good way. They’re the kind of tunes you want to be humming throughout the day.
So it thrills me to no end to listen to his most recent release, 11 Obscenely Optimistic Songs For Ukulele: A Micro-Folk Record For The 21st Century And Beyond. This time his infectious tunes are paired with funny and upbeat lyrics!
When I feel like pulling to covers over my head and hiding from the world, I instead listen to songs like Everybody Gets a Kitten or We All Do Better When We All Do Better. And suddenly the world seems a bit better and brighter.
Give it a listen.
